Ayurveda and Beauty

The ancient Indian healing system of Ayurveda stems back 5,000 years. It is truly the oldest medicine that has survived time and has empirically proven itself over and over again. Ayurveda, a Sanskrit word meaning the Science of Life, holds the key not only to health, but to Beauty as well. According to Ayurvedic principles, in order to be beautiful, one must be healthy. Ayurvedic concepts and tenets all came into being through observing the Natural World. By learning about the natural environment, the ancient scholars were able to decipher the plants, herbs, minerals and other natural substances that would benefit humans, and would render people strong, vital, healthy and youthful.
There are many treatments and daily rituals that are recommended in order to enhance appearance and create radiant beauty. According to a person’s constitutional type, the skin care program will vary. However, the principles of cleansing, nourishing, moisturizing are the same while the products and procedures differ slightly.
For beautiful skin, it is important to nourish it from the outside with the proper naturally derived creams, cleansing and protection from the harsh elements. However, of equal importance, proper nutrition and rest must be employed, or the creams and external care will be of little consequence. For true beauty to exist, it must have the proper circumstances - proper health and skin care, optimal nutrition, adequate rest and a peaceful mind.
Ayurveda has an entire nutritional system that, again, varies with a person’s constitutional type. However, the most important tenet is that one eats natural, healthy, fresh and nutritious foods that are as close to their natural state as possible. The skin care regimen should be done every day, and not over exerting oneself and resting are essential to having a beautiful, rested and healthy appearance.
The treatments available in the Ayurvedic system rival any modern skin care practices. The emphasis is on overall physical, spiritual and mental health, which then creates a nourished, youthful, strong body, mind and face. Many of the treatments are lavishly indulgent, incorporating oils, creams, and treatments that relax and rejuvenate the skin, the mind and body. Truly, Ayurvedic Beauty translates into glowing health, inside and out.
